Appearance

The candy bar is packed in a box with the stand removed, for screwing which you do not even need a screwdriver.

The monoblock design is made in the style of minimalism and clean lines. The first thing that catches your eye is the very narrow NanoEdge frames, thanks to which the almost 24-inch display looks much more compact than traditional counterparts.

At the same time, the frames and the surface of the display itself are on the same level, because of this the device looks stylishly flat.

Only from below stands a narrow decorative aluminum panel.

A long low button is visible on the upper edge.

If you click on it, then a block with a webcam and two microphones leaves the monoblock. An elegant solution that will appeal to everyone who prefers to seal the camera lenses with tape and tape so that hackers, the FSB and the CIA do not peep at them. In addition, the outgoing module is equipped with two infrared sensors, thanks to which you can use the Windows Hello face recognition function and log into the system without entering a password, just a nice smile on your computer.

The back side of the monoblock is made in the form of a monolithic aluminum bath.

On the left is the power button, and a double hole next to it is one of the stereo speakers.

To the right of the vertical axis is a number of various connectors: RJ45, a power connector, three USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0, as well as connectors for a microphone and headphones.

Maximum slope:
At the bottom there are ventilation grilles, another USB 3.0 connector and a card reader.

The power supply is large, with an unexpectedly massive plug.

Also included are a wireless keyboard and mouse, working through one tiny USB-receiver. The mouse is powered by one AA battery, the keyboard - from two AAA. The mouse is plastic, and the keyboard at the top is made of aluminum.

Display

One of the main features of the new Zen AiO: the total width of the NanoEdge frames from the edge of the device to the image is less than 6 mm.

At the same time, the ZN242IF managed to broaden my horizons: it turns out that it’s quite possible to make touch screens matte with all the attendant goodies: you don’t have any glare, the “resistance” to fingerprints is several times less and noticeable. At the same time, the display is also multi-touch, recognizes the touch of several fingers. Steering in Windows with both a hand and a mouse turned out to be much more convenient! Well, I didn’t have any complaints about the quality of the picture: a good IPS matrix with a color gamut of 100% NTSC and viewing angles of 178 degrees was used here.

Sound

The monoblock is equipped with stereo speakers with a power of 6 W and the proprietary ASUS SonicMaster Premium technology is applied. Thanks to the large volume of resonators, the sound from Zen AiO turned out to be deep, with a good margin in volume. Due to the backward-directed speakers, the sound is not sharp and directional, but surround, with good detail.

Performance

Zen AiO (ZN242IF) can be delivered with one of two processors: Intel Core i7 7700HQ or Intel Core i5 7300HQ . The amount of RAM is from 8 to 32 GB DDR 4. There is also a Zen AiO modification with Intel Optane RAM , with lower latencies and increased performance.

The monoblock is equipped with two drives: an HDD with a capacity of up to 1 TB and an SSD of 128, 256 or 512 GB, with a PCIe Gen 3 x 4 interface.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 with 4 GB of memory is responsible for the graphics. A very decent video card, especially in combination with the i7 7700HQ. Putting more powerful components in a monoblock was hardly advisable: the layout is quite tight, and it would be difficult to cool extremely hot components in a compact enough cooling system, and the noise would be too loud. And so, even in the heaviest benchmarks, Zen AiO works almost silently - only a little fan audibly starts to buzz with increasing load.

Benchmarks

Conclusion

Zen AiO is an alternative to traditional desktop computers. The advantages include compactness, powerful hardware, a very quiet cooling system, a matte touch multi-touch display, a high-quality sound system, elegant design, an interesting technical solution with a retractable webcam. Five USB ports (four 3.0 and one 2.0) are enough for all conceivable tasks, especially considering that the mouse and keyboard hang on the same port. При этом в моноблоке уже есть и Wi-Fi, и Bluetooth . Zen AiO also supports the ZenAnywhere service: if you install a proprietary mobile application on your smartphone, you can remotely turn on / off the all-in-one, send it to sleep mode and control the webcam. You can dream up on the topic of possible scenarios for using this feature.
